Help Desk: Useful information for Wallside Windows owners

TILT-AND-SLIDE WINDOWS

First: Which type of
Tilt-and-Slide windows do you have?
If your window's sash retaining clips look like this, click here for more information. If your window's sash retaining clips look like this, refer to the information below.

Tilting to Clean

Slide window slightly open.

Release top latch lever, press securely into track.

Release bottom latch lever, press securely into track.

Tilt window in.
Pushing both latch levers completely into their tracks applies hidden brakes — preventing window sash from sliding left or right and falling out of window frame.

How Sashes Are Mounted

Sashes are held in, top and bottom, by metal pivot bars that fit into nylon shoes.

Shoes are part of sliding track assemblies that have latch levers attached.

Sash Removal
Left sash must be removed first.

With sash tilted in:

Hold sash secure and stable with one hand while using other to fully pull down top latch lever, releasing top brake.
Be careful not to let sash fall from frame.

Gently pull top of sash diagonally down and inward until top pivot bar comes out of shoe and sash frame clears track — then lift sash out with both hands.

Sash Replacement

Use screwdriver to turn top and bottom shoes until slots are parallel with window frame.

With bottom latch lever flat into track (to apply brake), insert bottom pivot bar into shoe.

Top lever is vertical, bottom lever is flat into track, top shoe is aligned diagonally from bottom shoe.
With pivot bar set into stationary bottom shoe, tilt sash upward while inserting top pivot bar into moveable top shoe.
Helpful tip: Use lever to slide top track assembly back or forth while tilting sash to insert top pivot bar into shoe.

With top pivot bar in top shoe, bring sash completely vertical while closing it flush to window frame.

Press levers securely into latches, top and bottom.

Making a service inquiry?
Please help us identify the window at issue.

Wallside Windows made since 2003 have unique code numbers printed on the spacer between glass panes in the upper right or left corner of each sash. Please refer to this number — which we call a "unit ID" — when contacting us about a service issue.

For windows without a unit ID, you can help us by providing the following information:
  • In what room is the window located?
  • How many windows are in the room?
  • Do the windows look the same size or is the window at issue larger or smaller?
  • Does the window operate up and down or side to side?
